Canada Day has come and gone and so has my one-year anniversary

I had an action packed long-week-end which is exactly the way I like them. It all started off on Friday with my colleagues from Municipal Affairs and Housing taking me out for a good-bye lunch. They had wanted to do it while I was still in the office with them but it was far too busy. They took me to a Spanish restaurant called Segovia and I had Chicken Seafood Paella. It was really good. Another great restaurant for me to add to my list of must-take-people-to-eat-there restaurants.

They gave me a bamboo plant as a present. The plant has three stalks which is supposed to be for bringing happiness. I will always take more happiness! I put it in my kitchen window where it will get sun but not too much sun.

Friday night I met up with Greg after receiving my grocery delivery. We headed off together to the Mandarin in Scarborough to meet two of his friends for dinner. The Mandarin is the best restaurant ever! They have a crab leg festival going on right now so it was an all you can eat crab legs on the buffet. We stuffed ourselves silly and then headed to the theatre to see the Devil Wears Prada. We got there a little late and ended up sitting in the first two rows. That was a bit rough but didn't ruin the movie for me. It's fun and entertaining. Meryl Streep is fantastic.
Gotta love the Harry Potter manuscript joke!

Saturday morning I woke up late at 10am. I had planned on cleaning the apartment that day but I didn't end up having time after I pittered around. At three I headed out to Adam and Frances's house in Richmond Hill. They had invited me to pick cherries at Adam's parents place. Well the ride out was long but I didn't mind because I always have lots to read with me. I get to do so much more reading than I did in Thunder Bay. I got off the bus a few stops to early and ended up walking a bit which isn't a bad thing since I've gotten really fat in the last few months.

So Adam's parents have two cherry trees which were so full of cherries that the branches were almost breaking. They have been inviting people over to pick cherries and take them with them. I guess there is such a thing as being all cherried out!

I got to meet Stuart and Naiomi and their daughter Kaitlin. They are fantastic people! Katy is so CUTE! She has little blonde curls and bright blue eyes. Such a good baby too. She loved the cherries and was completely covered in cherry juice by the end of all the picking.

It started to rain so we headed back to Adam and Frances' place and they barbequed some bacon wrapped beef and turkey and spinach and strawberry salad and bruschetta. It was finished off nicely with a strawberry popsicle and chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

At about 8pm Katy fell asleep in her playpen and the adults played Settlers of Catan which was a fun game I had never played before. I'm told it is similar to Civilizations which I've also never played before. It's all about building roads and villages and gaining points for doing so. It took a while to figure out how it worked but I enjoyed it in the end.

On Sunday I was up bright and early to head out to Caledon with Joe, Lisa, Jordan and Stuart. We wandered around the red hills of Caledon for about a half hour but it was really hot out in the open sun so we decided to go and have a late lunch. We stopped at the Belfountain general Store and had a homemade HUGE sandwich and then their ice cream for dessert.

After refuelling we explored the Conservation area in the area. It was beautiful. When you were in the shade it was a tolerable temperature with the breeze. We took all sort of goofy photos and took a brief stroll through the woods there. Afterwards we headed to Joe and Lisa's for a BBQ. Just as we had finished eating their friend Jason arrived and he brought his father's raspberry wine. It was delicious. After dinner we all watched Labyrinth.

Monday I stayed at home for most of the day. TVtropolis had a 90210 marathon so I watched that while I pitted cherries. Kate and Stuart came by around 4 and I re-took pictures for their engagement photo since the first ones didn't work out. We ordered in Mama's pizza and picked songs for the wedding from the book the DJ gave them.

That was my long week-end. How was yours?
